Straightener

To increase the accuracy of gas flow measurement devices, it is necessary to have flow lines parallel to the central axis of the pipe. Elements such as control valves, pipe elbows, and other fittings can create flow vortices that affect the accuracy of the flow measurement equipment. For example, the presence of a vortex in the entering flow of turbine meters, causes the unequal force to turbine blades and thus reduces accuracy in measurement. In such situations, the manufacturers of meters, including turbine and ultrasonic, recommend that the meter be installed with a certain distance from any fitting. This specific distance can vary from 5 to 10 times the nominal diameter of the pipe on which the meter is installed. The alternative solution is to use a strainer. The internal structure of this equipment is such that makes the flow lines parallel to the central axis of the pipe.
